Plagiarism Policy Persian texts submitted to the Journal of Iranian Studies are checked using the Iranian plagiarism detection software Irandoc Similarity Check and Samim Noor. English abstracts are checked using iThenticate and Grammarly. If plagiarism is detected in the Persian text or English abstract, the journal office will immediately reject the submitted article and place the authors' names on a blacklist for five years. Therefore, all authors are advised to check their full manuscript using plagiarism detection software before submission.

The journal office will immediately reject any received article found to have committed plagiarism or self-plagiarism as soon as it becomes aware. During the review process, if an article is found to violate plagiarism, copyright, or publication ethics policies, it will be rejected (before acceptance for publication) and, if already published, will be retracted due to plagiarism.

Retraction Policy An article's validity may be revoked if its findings are deemed unreliable due to scientific misconduct or error, if it has plagiarized previously published work, or if it is found to violate publication ethics guidelines. An article may be retracted when the integrity of the published work is significantly compromised or undermined due to errors in research conduct, analysis, or reporting. Violations of publication or research ethics may also lead to retraction. The original article is marked as "Retracted," but a PDF version remains accessible to readers, and a bidirectional link is created between the published article and the retraction statement. Retraction statements typically include the agreement or disagreement of the authors.

Description The Journal of Iranian Studies is a scientific-research quarterly affiliated with the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at the University of Tehran. Its mission is to expand and elevate knowledge in fields related to the history, culture, language, literature, and civilization of Iran. The journal publishes a maximum of four issues annually. Its primary goal is to provide a platform for publishing original and innovative scientific research in various domains of Iranian studies. This quarterly welcomes articles and research that analyze diverse aspects of Iranian culture, including history, archaeology, Persian literature, linguistics, ancient languages, philosophy, mysticism, religion, art, anthropology, subcultures, folklore, handicrafts, and local customs and traditions.

COPE This journal, respecting publication ethics, follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adheres to the executive bylaw of the law for prevention and confrontation of fraud in scientific works.

Informed Consent of Research Participants In the Journal of Iranian Studies, all participants in studies and research on human subjects have the right to privacy, which researchers must not violate without informed consent. Identifying information of participants, such as names, etc., should not be published in written form, photographs, or genealogies unless this information is scientifically essential and the participants (or their parents or guardians) have provided written informed consent for publication. The informed consent forms of participants should be documented and archived according to national regulations or local laws in the journal office, at the researchers' workplace, or both.

Observance of Ethical Principles and Informed Consent Adherence to medical ethics, maintaining anonymity, and protecting patient confidentiality are fundamental principles that must be considered. In this regard, the code for the protection of human subjects, derived from the Helsinki Declaration, must be observed, and an ethics committee approval from the relevant university must be attached to the submitted article. In studies involving human subjects, informed consent must have been obtained from adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of underage participants.

Data Citation Policy Data should be cited in the same manner as articles, books, and websites. Authors should include data citations as part of their reference list. Data citation is appropriate for data stored in institutional, subject-specific, or public data repositories. When citing data or data-based claims, authors should reference the data at the relevant point in the article text and also provide a formal citation in the reference list. This journal follows the format proposed in the Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles: Author(s); Year; Dataset Title; Data Repository or Archive; Version (if available); Persistent Identifier (e.g., DOI).

Data Sharing Policy The Journal of Iranian Studies follows a basic data sharing policy. The journal is committed to a more open research vision that facilitates faster and more effective research discovery by enabling data reproducibility and verification, methodology, and reporting standards. The journal encourages authors to cite and share their research data, including but not limited to: raw data, processed data, software data, algorithms, protocols, methods, and materials. Authors are encouraged to share data supporting the results or analyses presented in their article or make them available as open access, provided this does not violate the protection of human subjects or other valid privacy or security concerns.

The journal encourages authors to share data and other artifacts supporting the article's results by archiving them in an appropriate public repository or data archive. Authors should include a data availability statement containing the address or hyperlink to the repository they have used, which will be published alongside their article. This journal requests authors of original research and secondary articles to (1) deposit unidentified data related to the article in a repository, and (2) include a data availability statement in their article explaining how the data can be accessed.

This journal defines data as the digital materials underlying the results described in the article, including spreadsheets, text files, recorded interviews or transcripts, images, videos, data output from statistical software, computer codes, and scripts. Authors are expected to deposit at least the minimum data required to reproduce the results described in the article. Data can be deposited in any repository that makes data publicly available, including institutional repositories, public repositories (such as Figshare, Open Science Framework, Zenodo, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse, OpenICPSR), or subject-specific repositories. The data availability statement should be placed before the references at the end of the main text. This statement should include (1) an indication of the data location; (2) a unique identifier, such as a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), accession number, or URL; and (3) any instructions for accessing the data, if applicable. During submission, you will be asked if there is a dataset associated with the manuscript. If yes, you will be asked to provide the pre-registered DOI, link, or other persistent identifiers related to the dataset(s). If you choose to provide a pre-registered DOI, please be prepared to share the reviewer URL associated with your data deposit upon request by reviewers. Where one or more datasets are associated with an article, these are not formally peer-reviewed as part of the journal's submission process. It is the author's responsibility to ensure data accuracy. Any errors in the data are solely the responsibility of the dataset producer(s).

Note: Since submissions to this journal undergo double-blind peer review, the main text file should not contain any identifying author information (e.g., author names, institutional affiliations, conflicts of interest, email addresses). As the data availability statement may reveal your identity, we recommend removing it from the anonymized version of your manuscript. Exceptions to this policy are granted in rare cases where non-identifiable data cannot be shared due to its proprietary nature or participant privacy concerns. Exceptions and access restrictions are also granted for reasons related to human subject privacy protection, biosafety issues, and/or respecting terms of use for data obtained under third-party licenses. Confidential data, e.g., human or patient data, must always be anonymized, or permission for sharing must be obtained in advance. If in doubt, authors should consult their institution/university ethics committee. Authors should have a data availability statement, including a link to the repository used, so it can be published alongside their article. Examples are provided below.

Declaration on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process When authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these should only be used to improve readability and language. The use of AI technology must be accompanied by human supervision and control. Authors must carefully review and edit the results, as AI can generate seemingly plausible outputs that may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship entails duties and responsibilities that are exclusively attributed to and performed by humans. Authors must disclose their use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by following the provided guidelines. A statement confirming this use will appear in the published article. It is essential to understand that authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the content of their article.

Guidelines for Disclosure of AI Use: Authors must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process in the final version of their manuscript by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript in the main file, before the reference list. This statement should be placed in a new section titled "Declaration on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process."

Declaration: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [Tool/Service Name] for [Purpose]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the content of the publication. This declaration does not apply to the use of auxiliary tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc. If there is nothing to disclose, no declaration needs to be added.

Privacy Statement The names and email addresses entered on this journal's website will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Advertising Policy The Journal of Iranian Studies maintains strict policies regarding academic and scientific integrity and independence. Therefore, the journal does not accept any advertisements—whether print, digital, or promotional content—from commercial institutions, companies, or any third-party organizations. This policy ensures that all published content is free from commercial influence and is evaluated solely based on academic merit, scientific credibility, and relevance to the journal's subject area. The absence of advertising also contributes to the transparency and reliability of the research published in the journal. By maintaining this clear separation between scholarly content and commercial interests, the journal adheres to the highest standards of scientific publishing and preserves the trust of authors, readers, and the broader academic community.
